What are the requirements for Zoom interpretation?

To enable interpretation services for your Zoom meeting or webinar, you have to make a language interpretation button available on your platform. For that, you need to have a Business, Education, Enterprise, or Pro account with a webinar add-on plan. After purchasing a required plan, you will have to contact Zoom support for them to confirm the setup and assign you access to manage language interpretation.  

How many languages does the Zoom session support?

Zoom enables interpretation in multiple languages - 9, by default, to be precise:  English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, German, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. Besides the default languages, you can also add 5 more languages of your choice and assign an interpreter to deliver interpretation.

Take a note that a host can edit a meeting later. For example, if you suddenly need two languages added to the list, you will be able to provide an additional language channel for your participants.

How do I access and enable language interpretation through Zoom?

You can activate the language interpretation for all users in the account, for a group of users, or for your own use.

To use these functions, you need to log in to the Zoom web portal and go to the advanced settings section. Enabling simultaneous interpretation in Zoom is quite simple after that:

  • Click settings and find an Interpretation section;
  • Press on manage language interpretation;
  • Click edit;
  • Add interpreter(s) of your choice;
  • Finally, click save.

The whole process is relatively straightforward, and along the way, you will be able to choose and add languages for your interpreters. This routine will create an audio channel for each language, which will serve as a language channel for your audience. Click start and get ready to kick off your event!

Still, can't make language interpretation work on your meeting or webinar?

Remember that you can't access advanced settings such as the language interpretation screen if you are setting up a meeting through the mobile Zoom application. It means that a meeting host has to use another device to have the ability to control available resources, add language interpreters, enable interpretation, and so on.

Also, sometimes the host is trying to provide simultaneous interpretations for different breakout rooms. Keep in mind that currently, language interpretation is only available at the main session. Other participants in breakout rooms won't be able to listen to the interpretation of their preferred language.

The language interpretation window is here for any changes!

Don't worry if any issues occur during a meeting. Through an interpretation window, you can access the interpreters' menu and choose an interpretation language. At the same time, professional interpreters will be able to select an audio channel, choose between multiple languages, and speak to the global audiences of their choice!

The rest should be really simple for your event participants. Below, in the settings menu, every person will be able to choose an audio channel.  Further on, each meeting participant will receive audio from the interpreters who speak and translate the original audio to their target language.
