The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is an international legal instrument for biodiversity conservation, ratified by 196 nations worldwide. The UN SCBD’s governing body, the Conference of the Parties (COP), meets every two years to set the course for biodiversity protection. United by the common concern for all biodiversity areas, the COP encourages actions that lead to a sustainable future. Due to the strict pandemic regulations, the UN SCBD had to look for a solution to bring world leaders together in a hybrid format.

COP-15, Part one of the UN Biodiversity Conference, set out to unite 2918 on-site and 2478 online participants during five days and hold 23 hybrid meetings across 8 conference rooms, restreaming them to an external YouTube audience across the globe. The objective of connecting global leaders in a hybrid format came with high stakes – a secure and reliable video-meeting environment, precise interpretation, and user-friendly engaging experience for all multilingual participants.

UN SCBD received audio recordings of the 5-day event in 2 languages to facilitate the preparation for the second part of the UN Biodiversity Conference.
