Supporting UN Biodiversity meetings for Convention on Biological Diversity

The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is a multilateral treaty aimed at protecting nature worldwide. CBD is driven by three goals, uniting 196 nationals globally:

  • Conservation of biological diversity
  • Sustainable use of Earth’s natural resources
  • Equitable and fair sharing of the natural resources

In March 2022, CBD came together to resume its meetings, continuing to work for the benefit of nature and humanity worldwide. While some participants could participate in person, some attendees needed to connect remotely.

About the event

From the 14th to 29th of March, the world came together in Geneva for the resumed UN Biodiversity meetings. The event aimed at discussing and finding solutions for the current issues regarding nature and humanity. The meetings were held live at the International Conference Center Geneva – the biggest conference center in Geneva and a hub of the most important institutional meetings. However, not everybody was able to join the meeting on-site, urging for a hybrid solution.

CBD looked for a platform that could support on-site meetings and enable more than 500 participants to engage remotely. In addition to the Plenary Sessions, which had to be streamed on YouTube into all six UN official languages, over 150 separate meetings were held individually in a hybrid manner.
